    Pros

The company has fantastic benefits from health to 401K and pension to tuition reimbursement. The pay in my area for professional is excellent and I feel the company really cares about their employees and is always listening to their concerns.

    Cons

There can be communication issues between separate parts of the company where one area may not receive the same communication as another. This has gotten better over the years I have worked for the company.

  2. Current Employee, less than 1 year

    Pros

    Great Benefits & work environment

    Cons

    Pay is not as competitive

  4. Former Employee, more than 3 years

    Pros

The people working in IT (my area) are generally dedicated & hard working, and even though this is a typical "big dumb insurance company", they generally are able to make some progress each year.

    Cons

HR (and its various elements, including recruiting, core HR, payroll, etc.) is the worst I've ever experienced in almost 30 years of working. Everything from the systems (very old software; example: managers doing reviews kept everything in Word documents because the system "lost" their entries on a regular basis), to the people (recruiting here is so bad its shocking they can hire anyone), to the policies (random changes to dress code, hybrid work, etc. all done without explanation, essentially at the whim of upper mgmt) are bad for the employees, and a nightmare for managers. I spent most of my HR related time fighting HR vs. actually helping my people or hiring new staff. This company would be better off if they jettisoned the whole function and outsourced it to one of the HR outsource companies.

  6. Current Employee, less than 1 year

    Pros

Management team that builds you up and supports you with all the tools and resources you need to complete your job duties, and not to mention the excellent pay and numerous amount of added benefits that are available for employees to take advantage of. Too many good things to list, honored to be apart of the Blue Cross Blue Shield team.

    Cons

Working telephonically has been a challenge to my IT skills but I have improved my knowledge so I do not know if you would consider it a con.

  7. Current Employee, less than 1 year

    Pros

The people! Hands down one of the best groups of people I have worked with. Very collaborative and supportive environment where everybody works together to achieve the best possible results. The company seems to honestly care about the wellbeing of its employees and the benefits reflect that. It's very common to find employees that have been with the company for 10, 15, 20+ years so this speaks volumes to the culture and the overall company. I Highly recommend it.

    Cons

Large organization which sometimes can be complicated to navigate, particularly for new hires. Some projects sometimes feel like they take forever to finish since there are many processes, red tape, and legal steps that need to take place. If you come from the health or government sectors, this should be familiar to you but if you come from the private non-health sector, there is definitively a learning curve (it is not bad, just different). However this is expected due to the nature of of the industry in general.

  8. Good IT shop

Exciting work. Open communication from Leadership. You feel involved in the company goals and initiatives. Supportive of ALL PEOPLE, not just the pastey white guys.

    Cons

It can be difficult to get promoted.

    Business Outlook

    Pros

    Annual bonus, good health insurance

    Cons

Lack of communication, raises aren't comparable to inflation percentages

  10. Pros

Takes care of their employees. Develops employees. Work life balance encouraged. Friendships development amongst employees is common - even across state lines.

    Cons

External hires are brought on at a hire pay rate than experienced internal employees currently make. Only 40 hours PTO roll over each year.

  11. Current Employee, less than 1 year

    Pros

I started her 04/04/2022 so I am a new employee, but I must say that in 28 years of nursing, I have never had such an amazing onboarding process. Thorough!. They will not let you fail here. Everyone is a family and is always looking out for my best interest. Even though working from home, the team is always there to support each other. Texts and calls are answered ASAP.

    Cons

A ton of autonomy working from home so must have good work ethics.
